On the topic of workplace aggression, there really weren’t a lot of coordinated suites of tools out there that measure the different individual and organizational factors that impact workplace aggression. In starting to work with PAVE, I helped to develop a comprehensive suite of tools that assess assertiveness and identify risk factors — both at micro and macro levels.

Suite of Tools
Self-Description Inventory (SDI)
The Self-Description Inventory (SDI) is an individual-focused tool designed to assess personal assertiveness—an essential skill for reducing workplace aggression and enhancing professional growth. Through a self-reported survey, the SDI identifies areas where individuals can strengthen their ability to stand up for themselves, support others, express differing viewpoints, and voice their rights respectfully and non-aggressively.
By pinpointing specific behaviors, the SDI offers insights into actionable areas for personal development. Research consistently shows that improving assertiveness empowers individuals to resist aggression and confidently fulfill their potential. This tool helps employees balance self-advocacy with respect for others, fostering a healthier workplace dynamic.
Employee Experience Survey (EES)
The Employee Experience Survey (EES) is a robust, proprietary tool developed to assess various aspects of workplace culture, safety, and employee well-being. It provides a holistic view of organizational dynamics by evaluating factors such as workplace fairness, communication, leadership effectiveness, and the incidence of micro and macro aggressions. Additionally, it identifies key risk factors like lack of equity, unresolved conflict, and ineffective reporting practices, which may undermine workplace safety and productivity.
The EES goes beyond traditional surveys by linking its findings to critical HR outcomes—such as job satisfaction, performance, retention, and organizational commitment. Identifying actionable insights enables organizations to prioritize targeted changes that foster a safer, more engaged, and productive workplace. This data-driven approach empowers leaders to address the root causes of workplace challenges, enhance employee morale, and drive sustainable improvements in culture and operational success.
Management Survey
The Management Survey complements the employee-focused tools by gathering objective data directly from senior management and client representatives. This survey collects key organizational metrics such as reported incidents, insurance claims, Employee Assistance Program (EAP) intake, absenteeism, disability statistics, and turnover rates.
When integrated with the data from the SDI and EES, the Management Survey offers a holistic view of workplace dynamics. This approach enables organizations to identify the most impactful issues affecting their culture and operations, providing a clear roadmap for actionable solutions and measurable improvements.

Top performance barrier: deliberate work sabotage.
PAVE stands for Proactive Anti-Violence Education
